About Ulladulla
Historically Ulladulla was an important port for the local timber and dairy industry. Today the harbour is home to a fleet of commercial fishing trawlers but, increasingly, the town has become a coastal holiday resort and popular place for retirement. It is one of those rare places on the New South Wales coast where the main artery – the Princes Highway – actually passes the harbour which, with its two boat ramps, is nestled between enclosing headlands. On either side of the town there are holiday beaches, seven lakes and in the hinterland there are state forests, mountain ranges and national parkland which are ideal for bushwalks and scenic drives (sourced from the Aussie Towns website – click for more).
Getting there
It was a pretty straight forward (but wet) drive from Bulli to Ulladulla down the M1 (route map) arriving in a still wet Ulladulla just after lunchtime.
Accommodation
Ulladulla is always a favourite stop-over for us. Merrisa’s mum and step-father lived in Mollymook (just north of Ulladulla for about 15 years, so our heart strings pull us back here whenever we are travelling down the coast.
We discovered the Holiday Haven Ulladulla Caravan Park several years ago and always try to book here. It’s in a great location, overlooking the Ulladulla Harbour and a short walk into town.
The Weather
The wet weather continued for the duration of our stay with an absolute downpour on the Saturday dropping 100mm in less than 12 hours!
Catching up with an old friend
Karen is a childhood friend of Merrisa who has recently retired to the nearby town of Milton, so we headed over to catch up. A short visit turned out to be a long one, with so much for the two of them to catch up on. We returned on the Sunday evening to take Karen out to dinner at the Milton Star Hotel’s Asian Restaurant.
